Celebrating the Fourth of July is a highlight of Indiana summers. The warm night air paired with stunning fireworks displays brings joy to Hoosiers across the state. Indiana is also home to several festivals celebrating Independence Day and fostering community spirit.
This list below is just a small gathering of some of the Fourth of July events in Indiana. Check out Visit Indiana or Indiana Festivals to find other Fourth of July events or other events happening in Indiana throughout the year. If you plan to celebrate Independence Day at home, check out this article for Fourth of July safety tips.
Indianapolis is bustling with activity to celebrate the Fourth of July. The main draw is the downtown Indianapolis fireworks display held on July 4. The city’s Fourth Fest celebration culminates in the 20-minute fireworks show, but during the day you can take in live musical performances and enjoy local food. The evening’s fireworks display is synchronized with local radio stations that play patriotic music to accompany the show.
Additionally, on July 4, the Indianapolis Zoo offers half off regular admission and the Indianapolis Indians play the Louisville Bats at Victory Field. After the Indians game, stay in your seats to enjoy the fireworks show! The Indians have played at Victory Field every July 4 since 1996.
Many communities in the areas surrounding Indianapolis host their own celebrations. If you are looking to beat the crowds, consider visiting smaller cities and towns like Avon, Carmel, Franklin, Greenfield, Greenwood and more.
If you live in northwest Indiana, Crown Point is home to one of the most acclaimed Fourth of July celebrations in the region. The celebration starts at 11 a.m. with a parade that travels by Crown Point High School and through downtown. All businesses and organizations are invited to participate in the parade. Then, in the evening, a fireworks display held at the Lake County Fairgrounds begins at dusk.
Several other communities in northwest Indiana also host Fourth of July celebrations, including Hobart and Portage. Hobart hosts the Independence Day Parade, Concert and Fireworks which also features live music and local vendors. The city of Portage’s parade starts at 10 a.m. and the festival at Founders Square Park begins at 5 p.m.
Fort Wayne and the surrounding areas celebrate Independence Day right! Fort Wayne hosts a fireworks show on July 4, but many surrounding communities do as well. Head to the Visit Fort Wayne website for more information on those displays. After the Fourth of July, typically about one week later, the Three Rivers Festival comes to Headwaters Park and features nine days of food, rides and entertainment.
If you’re looking for smaller crowds, consider the Fireworks on the Fairway event in Goshen. Doors open on July 4 at 5 p.m. with fireworks expected to start around 10 p.m. Before the fireworks, enjoy your time on the Black Squirrel Golf Course with offerings from local vendors and food trucks.
Evansville is home to the Fireworks on the Ohio celebration. The event is free, and it kicks off at 6 p.m. Before the fireworks display, enjoy the downtown area and try food from one of the more than 20 food trucks. It will be easy to keep the kids entertained with face painting, yard games and more entertainment available.
A full weekend of fun is planned for French Lick Resort’s Fourth of July Weekend event. The resort will host activities all weekend for guests including a fireworks display on July 4. Other activities will include crafts, live music, cookouts, carriage rides and much more.
Love spending time in the great outdoors? Enjoy the Fourth of July festivities in nature at the Versailles State Park’s Fireworks over the Lake event. The event starts at 4 p.m. but from 7 – 9 p.m., admission is free. Check the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website for other events in our great state parks!
