The National Safety Council consistently ranks agriculture as one of the three most hazardous occupations in the United States. A recent survey by the USDA's National Agriculture Statistics Service showed 200,000 work-related injuries occur on U.S. farms annually. And farm family members account for 65% of those injuries.
It should be no surprise that the success of all types of agriculture is tied to the level of safety on the farm. Which is why, in addition to our competitive rates, we offer a variety of discounts to make your insurance even more affordable so that we can ensure a sustainable future for Indiana agriculture.
In 2010, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance began our Fire Extinguisher Program as part of our Farm Safety Program.
Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance assists members in protecting farm equipment and agricultural buildings from loss by fire by providing, at no cost to the eligible client, one 10-pound ABC fire extinguisher for each farm we insure.
Eligible farm clients will be contacted by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Farm/Crop/Commercial Specialists to schedule the installation of the fire extinguisher. Members are entitled to one recharged 10-pound ABC fire extinguisher if the one already issued is used to extinguish a fire.
Self-propelled grain combines and high-risk farm buildings (ex: farm shops, livestock confinement buildings, etc.).
If your fire extinguisher has been used to extinguish a fire, please return it to your county Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance office. We will also replace any fire extinguisher unit found to be defective.
If you have any questions about this program, please contact the your local agent.
The Rural Guardian Policy protects the property on your farm and your liability in one comprehensive package. The policy can be designed to protect your home, farm buildings and farm personal property, as well as farm automobiles. It also includes liability protection and other coverage essential for almost every farming operation. By choosing specific additional coverage, you maintain the flexibility to pay for only the protection you need.
Multiple Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) provides comprehensive protection against weather-related causes of loss and certain other unavoidable perils. Coverage is available on more than 76 crops in primary production areas throughout the U.S. at 50 to 75% of the actual production history (APH) for the farm. Coverage levels of 80 and 85% are available for some crops if indicated on the actuarial documents for the county. An indemnity price election from 55 to 100% of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation expected market price (when available on the crop) is selected at the time of purchase.
Minimum Catastrophic Risk Protection (CAT) coverage is available for an administrative fee of only $300 per crop per county. MPCI coverage provides protection against low yields and poor quality as well as prevented planting, late planting and replanting costs for most crops.
Farming can be a major source of your family's income, and it can provide you with the opportunity to be an important part of the cycle of life. Yet, for all its financial and life-affirming benefits, farming is still often unpredictable and risky. You probably don't like to think about how a single storm can undo all of the hard work, time and money you spend every spring planting a big harvest—but it can—and that’s exactly why we’re here.
Our Crop Hail policy will protect your crops and family's income for a fraction of the cost you invest in a typical spring planting. The policy will cover the loss of your crops due to hail, fire, lightning, vandalism and even some accidents that may occur while the crop is being transported.* We also offer an optional Replant Buyout coverage for corn, grain, sorghum, sunflowers and/or soybeans, as well as a Tobacco Endorsement.
A 10% discount will be given to any insured who has an active Rural Guardian policy with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.
*Transit coverage does not apply to tobacco.
