  • Each item with descriptions and purchase dates 

  • Serial and/or model numbers if applicable 

  • Number of each item owned 

  • Estimated current values  

  • Photos (can be taken separately and saved with your checklist if you would like to have more robust records)

Once you are done completing the home inventory list, take these extra steps to help protect your home and property: 

  • Store your home inventory in a secure place, preferably in a safe or safety deposit box. 

  • Record all serial numbers and keep that list in a safe place with other valuables. 

  • Engrave your property with an identifying code or number that only you will know. 

  • Notify your local law enforcement of your planned absence if you are going to be away from your home for an extended period of time. 

  • Make sure your property has adequate lighting and safety systems including fire extinguishers and locks.
