How to help your community this holiday season

People boxing canned goods into cardboard boxes to help their community this holiday season

Being a part of a community is more than the place you live, it is a fellowship of neighbors proactively making your world and community a better place. Being proactive this holiday season can look a lot of different ways. Read about these ways and pick one or many to partake in this season of giving.

There are a multitude of different ways to help your community this holiday season. Whether that is through in-person volunteering, giving blood or making donations, the opportunity to help those in need is critically important now, more than ever before.

Ways to help your community in Indiana

Our partners at the American Red Cross are in need of financial and blood donations. There are many ways in which you can donate to American Red Cross, depending on your preferences. You can choose to donate money online which will help those who have been impacted by disasters big and small. Find a blood drive near you to help save the lives of those who need blood donations.

American Red Cross’ vision statement shares how they want to turn compassion into action. This is a perfect way to show how thankful you are by helping others who have less fortunate situations.

While many of you are planning your next cooking recipe for the holidays, there are Hoosiers who do not know where their next meal is coming from. Take time out of your busy schedule this holiday season to volunteer at or donate online to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Take this chance to help those in need of meals this holiday season and support your local community.

Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis is also in need of certain donated items, as well as volunteers. They have opportunities throughout the holiday season for your chance to give back to your community. Would you rather not do an in-person volunteer opportunity? You may also donate financially online.

There are hundreds of charities throughout the state whose mission is to help others. The Indiana Attorney General’s Office provides  a list of helpful tips for charitable giving. Enjoy sharing kindness and celebrating giving this holiday season.

Your family. Your dearest community.

Along with the many donations and volunteer opportunities, it is also important to show gratitude to your own family this holiday season. Take the time to thank your family members for everything they have done to make this year as bright as possible.

Looking to be selfless this Christmas? Pass along a message of encouragement for others to donate to charity instead of buying you gifts this year.

Still wanting to buy the children in your life gifts?  Consider also working with local charities who help coordinate donations of Christmas gifts for those who may be less fortunate or having a difficult year. Your Christmas gift donation may just make some child’s day this holiday season.

Cherish every moment with the ones you love and continue to stay safe this holiday season. Have a wonderful holiday season, from your Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance family.
